Letting Claude trade stocks
Claude can place a real stock order through an MCP server, and which servers you may use is decided mostly by where you live. Inside the United States there are brokers that will sell Claude an actual share. Outside it, almost none will, and the alternatives are a tokenized stock or an equity perpetual future, neither of which is a share. This page separates the three. Checked 23 September 2026.

The comparison
| Server | Who holds the funds | Credential on your machine | Places the order | What stops a bad order | Where you can open it | Maintained |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Alpaca MCP Server | Alpaca Securities, in your brokerage account | API key and secret, in your client config | Executes | None documented. Paper trading is the default and live trading is an explicit switch | Not documented for the MCP server | Active. Last push 15 September 2026, 962 stars, MIT |
| tastytrade MCP | tastytrade, in your brokerage account | An OAuth client and refresh token, with a guard that refuses to send them to an unrecognised host | Executes, but only after its own dry-run | The most enforced confirmation in this comparison. The five order-submitting tools refuse to act without a token from their own dry-run; the token is single-use, expires in 60 seconds, and is bound to the arguments and the endpoint, so you cannot dry-run one share and submit a thousand. Under it sit per-leg quantity checks against the account’s own ceilings, a notional cap on buying-power impact, and a refusal to send orders into frozen or closing-only accounts | United States. A US brokerage account is required | Active. Last push 21 September 2026, 20 stars |
| TradeStation MCP | TradeStation Securities | None. OAuth, hosted by TradeStation | Executes, after an explicit confirmation | Per-tool consent and order confirmations. A $10,000 minimum balance instead of a cap | Not documented | Active, hosted. ChatGPT support documented July 2026 |
| Composer MCP | Composer, in your account there | API key and secret in your client config | Executed | Dry-run preview tools. No cap or allow-list | US | Gone. The repository returns 404, the last release was 14 July 2025, and the advertised remote endpoint does not resolve |
| Webull | Webull Financial | None on the hosted server. App key and secret on the self-hosted one | Executes on the agentic product and the self-hosted server. The hosted cloud server cannot place an order | Order size and value caps, a symbol allow-list, an optional read-only mode, order preview and disconnect | US at launch. The self-hosted server documents nine regions including the UK, Japan and Singapore | Active. Self-hosted repo last pushed 12 September 2026, Apache 2.0 |
| Interactive Brokers AI Integration | Interactive Brokers | None. You sign in on IBKR’s own screen and authorise one account | Drafts only. An instruction never becomes an order on its own | Structural: the agent cannot place an order at all | UK, Europe, US, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. Not available in India or Japan | Active. Certified connectors for ChatGPT, Claude and Grok, plus any MCP client |
| Walnut | Your existing broker. Walnut holds nothing | None. OAuth | Drafts. You confirm each order in Walnut | The human confirmation step. No cap or allow-list documented | US brokerage accounts | Live, hosted, closed source |
| Senpi | You. "Senpi does not take custody of funds", and delegated access cannot withdraw or transfer to an external address | A Senpi auth token in an environment variable. No private key in a file | Executes. Co-pilot mode asks first, autonomous mode does not | Daily-loss halt, intraday drawdown breaker, per-position max_loss_pct with trailing exits, margin, notional and leverage limits that reject a breaching signal, and per-asset cooldowns | Open in and outside the US. Only sanctioned jurisdictions are excluded | Active. Last push 22 September 2026, 125 stars, 37 forks, MIT |
| FensoryOurs | You. Tokens settle to a wallet you control, perp margin sits at the venue | None. OAuth through a Fensory account | Executes | Kill-switch, market allow-list and a per-order cap, all enforced on the account. An order above the cap is rejected rather than trimmed | Not available to US persons | Active, hosted |
The instrument changes with your passport
Every US option here trades a real share. You own the security, it sits at a broker-dealer, and the usual investor protections attach to it. Alpaca, tastytrade, TradeStation, Composer and Webull are all in that group, and all five require a US brokerage account.
Outside the US the shares mostly are not available, and two substitutes are. A tokenized stock is a token an issuer mints against shares it holds: it tracks the price and settles to a wallet you control, and what it entitles you to is set by the issuer rather than by securities law you already understand. An equity perpetual future tracks the same price with no expiry, conveys no share, pays no dividend, and can be liquidated. Both are reachable by Claude. Neither is the thing a US reader gets.
The second question is the one from our MCP server comparison, and it applies here unchanged: what stops a bad order. Of the options below, tastytrade enforces a confirmation in its own software, Webull and Fensory cap the size of a single order, Senpi halts on a loss threshold, and Interactive Brokers sidesteps the question by refusing to execute at all. The rest rely on how much money is in the account.
The options
Alpaca MCP Server
Built by the venueA US broker-dealer with an official, open-source MCP server. Claude gets real US equities, ETFs and options, and paper trading is the default until you switch it off.
- What it reaches
- US equities and ETFs, options, crypto
- Cost
- Free server, commission-free US equities and options
Choose this if: You are in the US, you want Claude trading actual shares rather than a derivative of them, and you want to run against a paper account first. It is also the only broker server here you can read end to end before you run it.
Worth knowing: No per-order cap, so once live trading is switched on the only protection is the paper-trading default you turned off. API keys sit in your Claude config.
tastytrade MCP
Built by the venueThe safest of the US options by a distance. Claude cannot submit an order without a token from the server’s own dry run, and the token expires in 60 seconds and is bound to the arguments it previewed.
- What it reaches
- US equities and options
- Cost
- Free server, tastytrade commissions apply
Choose this if: You are in the US and you want Claude stopped by the software rather than by its instructions. Nothing else on this page makes the confirmation step something the server enforces, and if you are nervous about unattended trading this is the entry to read first.
Worth knowing: US only, and equities and options only. Production is the default rather than the sandbox, which its README says plainly and is worth reading before pointing Claude at a funded account.
TradeStation MCP
Built by the venueAn established US broker with an official server covering stocks, ETFs, options and futures.
- What it reaches
- Stocks, ETFs, options, futures and futures options
- Cost
- No MCP fee. Commissions, a paid AI subscription, possible market data costs
Choose this if: You already trade with TradeStation, or you want futures alongside stocks in the same Claude session, which most of this field does not offer.
Worth knowing: A $10,000 account minimum and a paid assistant plan, which makes it the most expensive way onto this page. US only.
Composer MCP
Built by the venueThe oldest entry in the category, from July 2025. Claude works through automated strategies rather than placing single orders, backtesting and then executing them.
- What it reaches
- US equities, ETFs and crypto through automated strategies
- Cost
- Server free, trading needed a paid Composer plan
Choose this if: You think in strategies rather than trades, and you want Claude to build and run one rather than buy a hundred shares of something. It is a different shape from everything else here.
Worth knowing: US brokerage only, and the strategy framing means it is a poor fit if you just want to buy one stock.
Webull
Built by the venueOne of only two options on this page that documents a hard dollar limit an agent cannot exceed. Three separate things share the Webull name, and the one that matters here is the self-hosted open-source server.
- What it reaches
- Equities, options, futures, event contracts and crypto
- Cost
- Not documented
Choose this if: You want a cap on what Claude can spend and you are in one of the regions the self-hosted server documents. It is the only entry besides ours offering that outside a US-only product.
Worth knowing: The consumer agentic product is US-only; the self-hosted server documenting nine regions is a developer path, not the same thing. Check which one you are actually getting.
Interactive Brokers AI Integration
Built by the venueThe largest broker in the category, and it will not let Claude execute. It drafts single-leg market and limit orders and a human submits them.
- What it reaches
- Reads the whole account. Drafts single-leg market and limit orders on equities and ETFs
- Cost
- Free
Choose this if: You want Claude to do the reading and the reasoning and you want to keep the decision. For a lot of people that is the right trade, and IBKR is the only serious institution here offering it deliberately.
Worth knowing: It does not answer the question this page asks. Claude does not trade; you do, faster. Listed because the alternative is pretending the option does not exist.
Walnut
Built by the venueRead-only by default across linked US brokerage accounts, with execution as an explicit step rather than the starting state.
- What it reaches
- US equities and ETFs through linked brokerage accounts
- Cost
- Free, with no paid tier
Choose this if: You want Claude reading your existing brokerage accounts before you decide whether it should touch them.
Worth knowing: US brokers only, and the read-only default means it does less than most of this page until you change it.
Senpi
Built by the venueNot stocks. Equity perpetual futures on Hyperliquid, roughly 95 equity, metal, index and pre-IPO markets alongside 230 crypto ones, with the strongest loss limits in the category.
- What it reaches
- Hyperliquid perpetual futures only. ~230 crypto and ~95 equities, metals, indices and pre-IPO
- Cost
- 0.05% on perpetual futures auto-trades, no recurring platform fee, plus Hyperliquid fees and a $1 activation per strategy wallet
Choose this if: You want equity exposure through Claude, you are outside the US brokerage system, and you would rather have a daily loss halt than a per-order cap. On the failure an unattended agent actually has, thirty bad trades rather than one, that is the better protection.
Worth knowing: A perpetual future is not a share. It conveys no ownership, pays no dividend, and can be liquidated, so the position can go to zero in a way a share cannot.
Fensory
OursBuilt by the venueOur own, and not shares either. Tokenized US equities from both Ondo Global Markets and xStocks, settling to a wallet you control, alongside treasuries, gold, crypto and perpetual futures on one account.
- What it reaches
- Tokenized US equities and treasuries, gold, crypto spot, perpetual futures
- Cost
- Free to connect. 0.01% to 0.05% on perpetual futures and Hyperliquid spot, nothing on tokenized equities, yields or bridging
Choose this if: You are outside the US, you want equity exposure you can hold rather than a perp you cannot, and you want the cap and the allow-list enforced on the account rather than asked of Claude.
Worth knowing: A tokenized stock is not a share: you hold a token an issuer minted against shares it holds, and the issuer documentation governs it. Not available to US persons, so most readers who want a real share should use one of the first five entries instead. Our cap is per order and does not limit total losses.
Announced, and not verified by us
Reported to work with Claude and not read on the vendor’s own page end to end. Named so you can chase them, not recommended.
- Robinhood Agentic TradingUS only, and crypto trading through an agent is further restricted by state. Its support page returned 404 for us.
- Moomoo API SkillsAustralia and New Zealand, and the agent drafts only: every instruction needs manual password-protected authorisation before it executes.
- Public.comUS securities markets only, and an account needs a US social security number and a US address.
How we checked
The field is every product we have verified that lets Claude cause a real order in an equity or an equity-tracking instrument. Products that only read prices are excluded, and Interactive Brokers is included despite not executing, because a reader asking this question deserves to know that the largest broker here deliberately stops short.
Entries that also appear on our MCP server or non-US comparisons are pulled from those pages by reference rather than retyped, so a custody, credential, limit or geography cell cannot say one thing here and another there. Only the description and the reasons to choose or avoid are written for this page.
Three instruments appear here and they are kept apart throughout: a share, a tokenized stock, and an equity perpetual future. Conflating them is the most common error on pages answering this query, and it is the one that costs a reader money.
Fensory publishes this page and appears in it. We are not the recommendation for most readers of it: anyone in the US who wants an actual share should use one of the first five entries, and we say so in our own row.
Questions people ask
- Can Claude actually place a stock trade?
- Yes, through an MCP server connected to a brokerage or trading account. Claude does not hold the account or the funds; it calls a tool that places the order on a venue, inside whatever limits that product enforces.
- What do I need to set it up?
- An account with one of the products below, its MCP endpoint pasted into Claude, and in most cases an API key or OAuth authorisation. Fensory and Gate authorise over OAuth so no key sits in a file; most of the rest expect a credential in your Claude config.
- Can Claude trade stocks if I am not in the United States?
- Not real shares, in most cases. Five of the options here require a US brokerage account. Outside the US the realistic routes are tokenized stocks, which settle to a wallet you control, or equity perpetual futures, which track the price and convey no ownership.
- What stops Claude making an expensive mistake?
- It depends entirely on the product, and most do not document anything. tastytrade refuses to submit without a token from its own dry run. Webull and Fensory cap the size of a single order. Senpi halts the day on a loss threshold. The rest rely on the balance in the account.
- Is a tokenized stock the same as owning the stock?
- No. It is a token an issuer mints against shares it holds, and the issuer documentation sets what it entitles you to, including how corporate actions and redemption work. It tracks the price and settles to a wallet you control, which a share at a broker does not.
