OpenClaw and Hermes trading skills, compared by what they can do

A trading skill may place an order, sign an on-chain transaction, analyse a chart or only fetch market data. Those permissions are not interchangeable. This comparison separates seven current options by what they can change, where credentials live and which controls remain outside the model. Fensory publishes this page, appears in it and is not available to US persons. Checked 16 October 2026.

Published 2026-10-16, last edited 2026-10-16. Every competitor claim was read against its own source on 2026-10-16. The page is re-checked when a source changes and at least quarterly. Fensory appears in this comparison and sells a trading account.

Start with permission, then compare features

The word "skill" describes instructions an agent can load, not the authority those instructions receive. Fensory and the OKX suite can reach an account that places orders. WaaP is a policy-controlled wallet and signing layer. Clawmes describes DEX and wallet actions but tells readers to use testnet funds while it is pre-alpha. OpenMobius, the official Hermes finance skills and GoldRush provide analysis or data without order execution.

That difference changes the security question. A read-only price skill can be wrong without moving money. An execution skill can submit an order, and a wallet skill can sign a transaction. For either of the latter, check where the credential sits, whether a separate policy engine or account blocks an oversized action, and whether the project has been tested on the network where you plan to use it.

Bot automation is another category that search results often fold into skills. Coinrule is a hosted bot product rather than an OpenClaw or Hermes skill, so it is not presented as an installable option here. The closest skill-based equivalent in this field is OKX cex-bot, which documents grid and DCA bot creation through the OKX CLI. That keeps a familiar bot workflow in the comparison without changing what the product is.

Tools that can change account or wallet state

Fensory Agent Skills

OursOfficial project

Six public SKILL.md files cover stock-named perpetual futures, Hyperliquid spot setup, account-limit checks, trend following, breakouts and mean reversion. OpenClaw and Hermes reach the account through the same hosted Fensory MCP server.

What it reaches
Perpetual futures, Hyperliquid spot and the account and market reads exposed by the Fensory MCP server.
Cost
Free to connect. 0.01% to 0.05% on perpetual futures and Hyperliquid spot, nothing on tokenized equities, yields or bridging; venue fees apply on top.

Choose this if: You want OpenClaw or Hermes to use one hosted trading connection, with order size and market access enforced on the account rather than only written into the skill prompt.

Worth knowing: The current distribution route is a direct download from Fensory. The stock skill trades stock-named perpetual futures through MCP, not tokenized shares.

Fensory skill files

OKX Agent Skills

Official project

An official set of skill files around the OKX CLI. Separate skills cover market data, orders, portfolios, earn products, sentiment and grid or DCA bots.

What it reaches
OKX spot, swaps, dated futures, options, event contracts, earn products and automated bot products.
Cost
MIT-licensed skill files. OKX account, trading fees and product terms apply.

Choose this if: You already use OKX and want the widest first-party skill surface in this field, including the closest installable equivalent to a Coinrule-style grid or DCA bot.

Worth knowing: OpenClaw and Hermes are not named in the official compatibility list, so confirm discovery and command execution in your chosen client before granting credentials.

OKX agent-skills repository

WaaP Agent Skills

Official project

A wallet and CLI for agents that proposes, checks, signs and sends on-chain transactions. Its documentation includes setup paths for both OpenClaw and Hermes.

What it reaches
On-chain transactions across supported EVM, Sui and Solana networks.
Cost
The documentation states that WaaP for Agents is free to use today. Network and protocol costs still apply.

Choose this if: Your agent needs to sign on-chain actions while a policy engine outside the model checks limits and routes larger actions to a human approval channel.

Worth knowing: A signing layer does not decide which market or strategy is suitable. Keep that decision separate from transaction approval.

WaaP for Agents documentation

Clawmes

Community project

A Hermes plugin with wallet, DEX trading, lending, staking, governance and on-chain automation commands. The project describes 52 tools across 29 services.

What it reaches
DEX trading, lending, staking, governance and on-chain automation through supported services.
Cost
MIT-licensed software. Network, protocol, wallet and API costs may apply.

Choose this if: You are evaluating a broad Hermes-native crypto plugin on testnet and want to inspect its wallet modes and service integrations before considering real funds.

Worth knowing: The project itself says not to use real funds. That warning makes it a research candidate today, not a production execution recommendation.

Clawmes repository

Data and research tools

Listed apart because they do not place orders. They can supply market data or analysis alongside an execution option, but they do not replace one.

OpenMobius

Community project

A multi-school market-analysis skill with curated knowledge, real-time data, technical indicators and chart generation. It installs separately for OpenClaw and Hermes.

What it reaches
2,008 canonical knowledge records, current-market data, technical indicators and generated charts.
Cost
Apache 2.0 licensed. Local runtime and any external data-source costs apply.

Choose this if: You need structured market analysis inside OpenClaw or Hermes and want a local evidence index that can refuse unsupported routes instead of pretending every method fits.

Worth knowing: It is an analysis layer. Its output does not inherit the execution product’s account controls.

OpenMobius repository

Hermes official finance and blockchain skills

Official project

The official Hermes catalog includes separate skills for stock quotes and history, Hyperliquid market data and trade review, and Polymarket prices and order books.

What it reaches
Stocks and crypto through Yahoo data, Hyperliquid market and account history, and Polymarket data.
Cost
Distributed through the official Hermes catalog. External data-provider terms may apply.

Choose this if: You use Hermes and want the smallest first-party route to quotes, order books or a review of past activity without giving the agent permission to place an order.

Worth knowing: The Hyperliquid skill reviews account history and trades but does not execute them. The name of a venue in a skill is not evidence of write access.

Hermes optional skills catalog

GoldRush Streaming API Skill

Official project

A first-party Covalent skill for GraphQL subscriptions over WebSocket, covering live prices, DEX pairs, liquidity changes, wallet activity and decoded events.

What it reaches
OHLCV feeds, DEX pair events, liquidity updates, wallet activity, swaps, transfers and token search.
Cost
A free API key is offered. Usage and credits depend on the selected GoldRush plan.

Choose this if: Your OpenClaw workflow needs live blockchain events or price feeds and should remain read-only, with execution handled by a separate, explicitly chosen tool.

Worth knowing: A fast data feed cannot enforce an order cap or validate the strategy that consumes it.

How we checked

The field was assembled from live searches for "openclaw trading skill", "hermes trading skill" and "clawhub trading", followed by checks of the official catalogs and repositories those results led to. Exact keyword tools returned no reportable volume for the three phrases on 16 October 2026, while Google showed answer summaries for the first two. This is an early category comparison based on documented capability, not a ranking by search popularity.

Each contender was checked against its owner’s documentation or repository on 16 October 2026. Marketplace badges, directory counts and third-party roundups were not used as product evidence. A project can be popular and still expose a key unsafely, and a security badge cannot prove how a transaction path behaves.

The table separates products by permission. Execution entries can change account or wallet state. Data entries can analyse or retrieve information but cannot place an order. Clawmes remains in the execution group because its intended commands change state, while its own pre-alpha warning is shown in the status, reason and caveat instead of being softened.

Fensory publishes the comparison and is assessed with the same fields. Its direct-download distribution is stated, its US restriction appears in the introduction and its stock skill is identified as a perpetual-futures workflow rather than a tokenized-share workflow.

Questions people ask

What is an OpenClaw or Hermes trading skill?
It is a set of instructions and supporting files an agent can load for a defined task. The file does not decide its own authority. A skill may be read-only, may call an exchange account, or may ask a wallet service to sign a transaction, so check the connected tool and credential path as well as the text inside the skill.
Can OpenClaw or Hermes place a real trade?
Yes, when the client is connected to an execution product and the account permits the action. Fensory and OKX document order paths. WaaP documents signed on-chain transactions. The official Hermes finance skills, OpenMobius and GoldRush are data or analysis tools and do not place orders.
Which option keeps a private key out of the agent process?
WaaP states that its signing key stays inside an attested enclave and the agent never receives the complete key. Fensory uses OAuth for the MCP connection, so its skill files do not contain an exchange key or wallet private key. Other entries use local configuration or have no transaction key because they are read-only.
Is Clawmes ready for real funds?
No, according to its own repository. It is pre-alpha, has not been validated on a real network or audited by a third party, and tells readers to use testnet amounts until version 1.0. Its breadth is useful for evaluation, but that warning rules out a production recommendation today.
Why is Coinrule not in the comparison table?
Coinrule is a hosted trading-bot product rather than an OpenClaw or Hermes skill. The skill-based option closest to that workflow here is OKX cex-bot, which documents grid and DCA bot creation through the OKX CLI. Mixing the two in one table would make installation and permission comparisons misleading.
Should a data skill and an execution skill be installed together?
They can be, but treat them as separate trust boundaries. The data skill can shape what the agent believes, while the execution product decides what it can change. Verify the source and freshness of the data, then keep account limits and transaction approvals independent of the analysis prompt.
