Definition
A builder fee is an additional per-order fee paid to an application or builder that routes a Hyperliquid trade using a builder code.
How builder codes work
Before a builder can collect the fee, the user approves a maximum fee for that builder address. The approval is separate from an individual order and can be revoked. A later order can include the builder address and the fee to charge for that fill, provided it stays within the approved maximum.
Hyperliquid processes the builder code as part of its fee logic. The platform's maximum allowed fee is a protocol limit, not the price charged by every application using builder codes.
Separate each cost
A builder fee is separate from the venue's maker or taker fee. A trade can also face spread, slippage or network costs depending on the instrument and route. Pricing pages should state each cost separately so a maximum approval is not mistaken for the amount charged on every order.
What it does not mean
A protocol-wide maximum builder fee is not Fensory's fee. Fensory's current pricing and the products it applies to are stated on the pricing page.

Questions about builder fee
- Is a builder fee the same as a maker or taker fee?
- No. The venue charges maker or taker fees under its fee schedule. A builder fee is an additional fee for the application that routed the order.
- Does the user approve a builder fee?
- On Hyperliquid, the user approves a maximum for each builder address before that builder can include its fee on an order.
- Can builder-fee permission be revoked?
- Yes. Hyperliquid documents builder-fee approval as a permission that the user can revoke.
