What is Everclear (formerly Connext)?

Everclear, formerly Connext, was a trust-minimized cross-chain interoperability protocol. Connext originally launched as a state channel network and evolved into cross-chain infrastructure using optimistic verification, then rebranded its core infrastructure to Everclear in 2024 as a clearing layer for cross-chain liquidity. In 2026 the Everclear project was sunset, so it no longer operates as an active protocol. A page describing Connext or Everclear as a live bridge to route funds through is out of date.

Historically, what distinguished Connext was its emphasis on trust-minimization. Rather than relying on multisigs or validator sets, it used cryptographic verification and economic incentives, with routers fronting capital for fast transfers while the protocol handled settlement through optimistic mechanisms.

How Connext Worked (Historical)

A user initiated a cross-chain transfer, a router fronted liquidity on the destination chain, the user received funds quickly, the transaction settled through optimistic verification, and the router reclaimed funds after settlement.

Optimistic Verification

Transactions were assumed correct by default, with a challenge period for watchers to submit fraud proofs, economically secured through staking.

Yield Opportunities (No Longer Active)

Because Everclear was sunset in 2026, the router and NEXT staking opportunities that Connext once offered are historical and are no longer available. Do not treat them as a current place to earn.
