What is Bungee (formerly Socket)?
Bungee, formerly Socket, is a cross-chain bridge aggregator. It is not a bridge itself; instead it routes transfers across many underlying bridges and DEXs to find the best path for any cross-chain transfer or swap, much as 1inch aggregates DEXs for same-chain swaps. The team rebranded its user-facing product from Socket to Bungee, and Bungee is now the primary brand.
Because it is an aggregator, Bungee holds little locked value, so the meaningful metric is cumulative volume, over $20 billion to date, rather than TVL. Bungee is embedded as default bridge routing in wallets like MetaMask and Coinbase Wallet, and it also powers bridging in apps such as Rainbow Wallet, Zerion, and many DeFi protocols. How Bungee Aggregation Works
Route discovery: the user specifies source and destination chain, token, and amount; the system generates viable routes, fetches quotes from all protocols in parallel, ranks routes with multi-factor scoring, and builds the execution data.
The Bungee Interface
Bungee (bungee.exchange) is the consumer interface, with a clean UI for cross-chain swaps, multiple route options, gas estimation, transaction tracking, and a Refuel feature for gas tokens on the destination chain.
