MetaMask vs Fensory: Comparison

MetaMask now offers tokenized stocks, perps, yield, and its own AI-agent wallet. Here's how its fund-flow permissions actually compare to Fensory's MCP agentic trading.

Aug 24, 20267 min

MetaMask is the wallet most people in crypto learned self-custody on. Over the past year it has moved well beyond swaps and token storage, adding tokenized US stocks, perpetual futures, stablecoin yield, and, as of early August 2026, an AI-agent trading product of its own. That expansion is recent enough that a straight comparison between MetaMask and Fensory is now a fair one to run, so long as the specifics of each product are stated precisely rather than assumed.

Both platforms are self-custodial. Neither one holds user funds. Where they differ is in how broad each feature set is, which issuers and protocols sit behind it, and exactly what an AI agent is and isn't allowed to do with your funds.

Where MetaMask is strong

MetaMask is the wallet most of the industry standardized on, with roughly a decade of track record and tens of millions of users, generally cited as the largest browser-extension and mobile self-custody wallet by user base. It has also shipped real product depth recently:

Tokenized stocks and ETFs. Through a partnership with Ondo Finance's Global Markets, eligible MetaMask users can buy and hold 260+ tokenized US stocks, ETFs, and commodities directly in the Extension and mobile app, on Ethereum and BNB Chain. The underlying securities are held with licensed US custodial broker-dealers on Ondo's side, the token itself sits in the user's self-custodial wallet. Not available to US users.

Perpetual futures. MetaMask Perps, powered by Hyperliquid, offers 150+ markets spanning crypto, US stocks, and commodities, with up to 50x leverage, funded from any token on any supported EVM network and auto-converted to USDC.

Stablecoin yield. MetaMask's "Money Account," built on its own mUSD stablecoin, earns a variable APY (reported around 4%) by routing funds into a small set of established DeFi lending venues, primarily Aave and Morpho, plus separate liquid-staking access to Lido and Rocket Pool for ETH. A curated yield product with a handful of destinations, not a broad aggregator.

AI-agent trading. MetaMask Agent Wallet launched in early August 2026 and connects to Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode, and Cursor. It lets an agent execute swaps, bridges, Hyperliquid perps, Polymarket prediction-market trades, Aave lending and yield deposits, and token transfers, governed by user-set daily spend caps, an allowlist of protocols, and a choice between a stricter "Guard Mode" and a looser "Beast Mode." Anything outside policy triggers a 2FA prompt before it executes, and permissions can be revoked at any time.

Prediction markets, via an exclusive Polymarket integration.

Where Fensory differs

Fensory is built as a single composable-finance surface rather than a wallet that has added trading features on top.

Tokenized stocks: two issuers instead of one. Fensory offers 101 tokenized US equities sourced from two issuers, Ondo and xStocks, rather than a single issuer. MetaMask's larger headline count (260+) comes entirely through Ondo Global Markets, and is not available to US users.

DeFi yield: aggregation, not a curated shortlist. Fensory aggregates yield across 28 protocols and 330+ products. MetaMask's yield product is deliberately narrow by comparison, a handful of venues rather than a scanned, aggregated market.

Perps: broader asset coverage. Fensory's live perps terminal spans 250+ markets across crypto, stock indices, FX, and commodities. MetaMask Perps covers 150+ markets across crypto, US stocks, and commodities via Hyperliquid; FX markets were not part of what could be verified for MetaMask Perps.

AI-agent trading: the fund-flow mechanics are genuinely different, worth reading carefully. Fensory's MCP agentic trading is built around a hard constraint: the agent can never withdraw or transfer funds out of the account, the user sets a per-trade cap and which specific markets the agent can touch, and access is revocable instantly. MetaMask Agent Wallet is built differently: the agent can execute token transfers to external addresses, not just trades, and the controls that bound it are a daily spend cap and a protocol allowlist rather than a per-trade cap or a fixed market list, with 2FA required for anything outside policy. Both models are self-custodial and both are revocable, but they draw the line for "what the agent is allowed to do" in different places. That's not a case of one being unsafe and the other safe, it's a real design difference worth understanding before connecting an agent to either.

Chains. Fensory runs on Ethereum, Solana, and BNB Chain. MetaMask is natively multichain across EVM networks and Solana, with Bitcoin support added or in progress; its tokenized-stock product specifically runs on Ethereum and BNB Chain.

Which one is for you

If you already live in MetaMask, or you want the wallet with the longest track record and widest name recognition as your base layer, its new stock, perps, yield, and agent-trading features mean you may not need to leave it for basic exposure to any of those categories. That's especially true if you're outside the US, since MetaMask's tokenized-stock access currently excludes US users entirely.

If you're weighing where to actually put a tokenized-stock or yield position to work, the gap is in breadth: Fensory's stock access spans two issuers instead of one, its yield product scans 28 protocols instead of a handful, and its perps terminal covers a wider set of asset classes including FX. And if you're planning to connect an AI agent to either platform, read the fund-flow mechanics before you decide: whether the agent can transfer funds to external addresses at all, and whether it's bounded per-trade or per-day, are different questions with different answers on each platform.

FAQ

Is MetaMask custodial now that it holds tokenized stocks and runs perps?

No. MetaMask remains self-custodial: users hold their own keys. For tokenized stocks, the underlying security sits with a licensed broker-dealer on Ondo's side while the token itself sits in the user's wallet. For perps, positions are held on Hyperliquid, funded from the user's self-custodial wallet.

Can an AI agent move funds out of my wallet without my approval on either platform?

On Fensory's MCP agentic trading, no: the agent cannot withdraw or transfer funds, and is limited to a user-set per-trade cap on a user-set list of markets. On MetaMask Agent Wallet, the agent can execute transfers to external addresses, but only within a user-set daily spend cap and protocol allowlist, and anything outside that policy requires 2FA approval before it executes. Both are revocable at any time.

Are MetaMask's tokenized stocks available in the US?

No. MetaMask's tokenized US stock and ETF access via Ondo Global Markets is explicitly not available to US users.
